I recently interviewed designers for a new project. At the end of the interview, I told them that we’d announce the selected designer a month later. If I could read their minds, I would imagine that they would be saying “Make up your mind already! Can’t you state workers make a decision faster than that?” (Or at least that is what I would have been thinking) I then went on to explain that the selection committee recommends the designers to the Board of Trustees (BOT) for approval. The BOT meets every other month, so unless our interview is near the time of the BOT meeting, the designers have to wait.
The BOT as described on the http://bot.unc.edu and https://www.ncsu.edu/about-nc-state/university-leadership/board-of-trustees/ websites: These universities as constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina (UNC) system “shall have a board of trustees composed of thirteen persons: eight are elected by the UNC Board of Governors, four are appointed by the governor, and the remaining member is the president of the student government, ex officio. ”
These websites contain good information if you are interested in current capital projects on the UNC-CH or NCSU campuses. The Finance and Infrastructure (F&I) committee at UNC-CH and the Buildings and Property (B&P) committee at NCSU are the committees that approve designers. See below for links to the meeting minutes and attachments for UNC-CH and NCSU. You can find the same materials for most of the 16 state universities under the UNC system on the school website. http://www.northcarolina.edu/?q=content/our-17-campuses
